Sn 11164. - 11164This excellent original Victorian era Bowie has a clean 6 ¼” single edged bowie blade, steel cross guard and superb chequered Buffalo horn scales. The blade is marked at the ricasso 'Young Queen’s Cutler Edinr’ (Edinburgh) most likely Archibald Young, a Scottish Victorian maker of Medical Equipment with a Royal Warrant. The blade has just minor staining consistent with age and is crisply marked ‘Hunter’s Companion’. The knife measures 10 ¼” overall and is complete with its original brown leather scabbard which has a German Silver throat mount and chape. The surface of the leather has some scuffing and stitching is absent from the seam this could easily be replace. The upper mount has a leather tab attached most likely the remnants of an absent integral belt loop. The throat mount is beautifully engraved with what is obviously a Victorian owners name ‘F.Raine’ and dated ‘1873’ .
