A day on a shoot! Muntham Farm, West Sussex
25th October 2014 saw the first game shoot of the season on Muntham Farm. I was lucky enough to be invited along to see what happens. They called it a ‘rough’ shoot as it’s a very laid back affair, still run to point but a very close unit of people taking part making it more like a family affair. We had 9 guns and around 18 beaters for the day, not to mention the 10 or so gun dogs. The weather on the day was perfect; cloudy with some sunshine and no wind.
For some beaters, it was their first time on this shoot. Everybody was raring to go at 9.30am with the gun dogs howling with excited. The tractor pulled up with lift on the back ready to carry around 20 people and dogs. Today we were shooting Pheasant and Partridge all over the farm and around the South Downs of West Sussex. Within the first couple of drives we had shoot around 50 birds. After a swift cup of tea and biscuits we carried on for the final 4 drives crawling through brambles and driving the pheasants into the guns.
Overall a fantastic day at the shoot with great company and some great birds to feast on.
Below I captured the footage.
