England’s Steve Scott Smashes to Grab Gold
England’s Steve Scott beat Matthew French to win gold in an explosive double trap final at the Commonwealth Games
All eyes were on Scott and French of Oxford as Peter Wilson, the Olympic Champion was not competing in Glasgow. The duo were on top form, grabbing 27 out of 30 targets in the semi-finals to claim their place in a shoot-off with India’s Assab Mohb to get their place in the gold-medal match.
With Mohb missing first, this guaranteed a second gold for England as Charlotte Kerwood claimed gold just hours earlier.
French missed one clay out of 30, however Scott smashed all to secure gold.
“I got a 30/30 in the qualifying round and I managed to keep a little bit extra in the gold-medal match and come away with a second [one]. Said Scott
“It was probably the most passionate shoot-off I’ve ever been involved in because if I ever wanted anyone to beat me it would be Matthew. We both put ourselves in a situation where we could both win, and I managed to come out on top.
“He could be top 10 in the world, the way he shoots. We both push each other and today we pushed each other along to gold and silver.”
