The World Pheasant Plucking Championships…take a look!
A builder and Pig-rearer was crowned Pheasant Plucking Champion this weekend in St Helens.
Grant Smith from Kings Moss took the crown and by the looks of things was over the moon. He walked away with a engraved championship shield, a piece of wildlife art by Timonthy Greenwood, a hamper of the finest Game meet and a supply of George Wrights Brewery’s Cheeky Pheasant beer.
The organiser, Alan Abbott said: “We have been running farmers markets for a long time now and we put or heads together to see if we could increase the number of people coming by holding different events.
“The Pheasant Plucking Championships have been going for a few years now and are getting bigger and bigger each year. I used to compete, but we have grown in numbers so much that I no longer need to.
“It is a skill that most country people should have, particularly shooters who would prepare their own game.”
Barbra Hurst was the afternoon’s judge to find the most perfectly plucked pheasant.
