British Sterling Sub Machine Gun No 5 MK I Second Pattern Bayonet By Poole & Scabbard & Webbing Frog. Bayo 59 - Bayo 59
British Sterling Machine Gun Bayonet, No 5 MK I Second Pattern by Poole and complete with scabbard and webbing frog. The parkerised blade is fullered with a bowie shaped blade with clipped point. The blade is in excellent condition. The ricasso is stamped with P inside a circle (Trade Mark of Poole) and "194" which means it was manufactured in either 1946 or 1947 as Poole only made the No 5 in these two years. The bayonet has wood slab grips secured with two screw bolts. The pommel is stamped with "G2" and the War Department 'Broad Arrow'. The mortise slot for the No 5 bayonet is circular in cross section instead of squared or 'T' shaped as on previous bayonets. It has a large muzzle ring to accommodate the rifles flash hider. The MK I scabbard is in excellent condition and is made from sheet steel and painted black. It has a frog stud and a green webbing frog incorporating a belt loop and keeper by MW& S (see page 238 & 239, item B293 in Skennerton's 'British & Commonwealth Bayonets book).
