Portuguese 1886 Kropatschek Bayonet and Scabbard. Bayonets
Portuguese 1886 Kropatschek Bayonet and Scabbard. Bayo 187 - Bayo 187
This bayonet was originally intended for the Guedes-Castro rifle of 1885 but before production got under way, the Portuguese Government decided against the Guedes rifle and instead opted for the Kropatschek. Both were made at the Steyr Factory in Austria and the issue bayonets are marked with the Austrian 'OE' over 'WG' which is the mark for the Steyr factory. The top edge of the blade is inscribed with "Steyr 1886". It has wood slab grips, and a push button release. The blade is in very good condition. The scabbard is steel and has a shaped frog hook to the rear. (See Martin J. Brayley's 'An Illustrated History Of Bayonets' book, page 182-183). The price includes UK delivery. Bayo 187
