Description

~ Post 1867 Victorian Royal Irish Constabulary sword and scabbard ~

The sword is based on the 1845 Infantry Pattern sword and has a finely etched blade.

The ricasso is marked "Ireland & Sons,12 & 13, Elliss Quay, Dublin" to one side with the rest of the blade having scrolling foliate motifs & the VR cypher.

The other side is sbears the Royal Irish Constabulary seal and further scrolls. It is also marked 'Warranted' and has the proofing stud.

The fishskin grip is attached to the half-basket guard with the coat of arms of Ireland.

The steel scabbard has both its suspension rings.

~ Dimensions ~

The blade has a length of 33 inches (83.8 cm); the overall length of the sword is 37.5 inches (95.2 cm).

The scabbard is 33.5 inches (85.1 cm) long.

The set weighs 1.25 kg.

~ Condition ~

There are several nicks to the blades edge, concentrated towards the tip. It is otherwise very tidy and the grip is in excellent order. The scabbard has a few shallow dents.
