The Durham Light Infantry (DLI) was an Infantry Regiment of the British Army from 1881 to 1968. During the First World War the DLI raised 43 Battalions with 22 seeing active service overseas - on the Western Front, in Italy, Egypt, Salonika and India. During the Second World War, 11 Battalions of the DLI fought with distinction. Dunkirk in 1940, North Africa, Malta, Sicily, Italy, Burma and from D-Day to the final defeat of Nazi Germany in 1945. This is an excellent condition pre WW1 hook quillion 1907 pattern bayonet for the Enfield rifle manufactured in November 1911 by Enfield & marked to the DLI. The ricasso is marked '1907 (Pattern), 'EFD (Enfield) 11 '11 (Date) & Kings Crown'. The reverse has inspection stamps. The blade is in a nice clean condition. The wood slab gripss are undamaged. The pommel is crisply stamped with Regimental mark '3.D.L.I.' To The 3rd Battalion Durham Light Infantry together with weapon number '760'. It is in its original brown leather scabbard. The scabbard's steel locket & Chape are undamaged. It is also fitted with an original WW1 1914 pattern leather frog. The rear of the frog is WW1 date stamped '1916' & with an unreadable makers name. The frog has the correct leather helve carrier strap to the rear. All leather & stitching of the scabbard & frog are in tact.
