The Purchase Metal Industries Shoranur India is a Kerala State owned metal working Company established in 1928 . The Company was a maker of quality Bowie knives. Their larger Bowie knives were popular private purchase fighting knives for British Soldier’s. This is an original large Bowie by Purchase Metal Industries Shoranur post 1928 and is in the form popular as British private purchase fighting knives. The knife has large Stag horn grips secured by brass rivets with broad brass cross guard and a thick brass loop at the pommel which could serves as a loop for wrist strap but would also cause devastating injuries if used to strike an opponent. The clean 10” Bowie blade is crisply stamped ‘Metal Industries Ltd Shoranur’. The Bowie is 16” overall length. The Bowie is complete with brown leather covered wood scabbard. The scabbard has an integral thumb operated steel retaining clip securely stitched into the leather at the throat of the scabbard. The clip fastens to a small slot in the cross guard of the Bowie when in the scabbard and retains it securely in place. The rear of the scabbard has a single belt loop and is mounted with a London 1913/ 1914 Sterling Silver Hallmarked armorial shield.
