British RAF Bone Dome MK1A ‘Fast Jet’ Pilot's Helmet System, With G Type Cloth Helmet Liner Wired For Comms And H Type WD Marked Oxygen Mask. Sn 11740:3 - 11740:3
With the introduction of jet aircraft, the RAF developed the MK1 Series Bone Dome helmet system in the 1950s. The Bone Dome helmet was a shell which fit over a cloth helmet and oxygen mask this system was used into the 1980s. This set consists of the hard silver coloured helmet with shaded full sun visor, comms wired cloth helmet, and oxygen mask. This MK1A helmet is in excellent undamaged condition, with great webbing liner and padded chin cup with stud fastening straps. The Visor is stamped 22C/1650 and the visor rail stamped ‘Large’ together with stores numbers. The liner is labelled 'Size 3' together with stores codes and the interior shell 'Helmets Ltd, Wheathampstead, Herts, England’ (illustrated inset in image 2). The liner is made of clean blue-gray material and is wired with leather padded ear cups in fine undamaged condition. Also included is the original oxygen mask, in a light green colour rubber. The mask is stamped 'Medium' (size) & War Dept arrow and fitted with microphone ‘jack’.
