EARLY American Manufactured Remington British Issue 1915 Dated 1907 Pattern Bayonet To The 4th Battalion Grenadier Guards & Scabbard. Sn 11374:3 - 11374:3

This bayonet is one of the 100,000 bayonets made in America by Remington. The first deliveries to the UK took place in July 1915. This bayonet was manufactured and stamped by Remington in May 1915 which indicates that this bayonet was most likely supplied in one of the early consignments to the UK (see page 191 of British & Commonwealth Bayonets by Skennerton). This bayonet has a clean 17” blade with fuller and wood grips secured with two screw bolts. The pommel has a push release button which works as it should. The ricasso has inspection marks on one side and ‘1907’ (pattern) ‘5 15’ (May 1915 date) and Remington roundel on the reverse. The pommel is Regiment marked ‘4 GG’ to the 4th Battalion Grenadier Guards and number ‘364’ (The Grenadier Guards is the most senior Regiment of Infantry. The 4th Battalion fought in a number of significant battles during WW1 including Loos, the Somme, Cambrai, Arras and the Hindenburg Line. Seven members of the Regiment received the Victoria Cross during the war). The bayonet’s leather scabbard has a metal chape and locket. All stitching and leather of the scabbard are intact. ’07 Pattern bayonets by Remington are not easy to find. The price for this scarce bayonet to a prestigious British Regiment includes UK delivery.
