    SUPERB, WW1 & WW2 US Army Rock Island Arsenal 1944 Dated Springfield Model 1903 .30-06 Calibre Rifle Manufactured In 1909. Sn 11814 - 11814

The M1903 Springfield, formally the United States Rifle, Calibre .30-06, Model 1903, is an American clip loaded, 5 shot, bolt-action service rifle used primarily during the first half of the 20th century. It was officially adopted as a United States military bolt action rifle on June 19, 1903, and saw service in WW1. It was officially replaced as the standard infantry rifle by the faster firing semi-automatic 8 round M1 Garand starting in 1937. However, the M1903 Springfield remained in service as a standard issue infantry rifle during WW2, since the U.S. entered the war without sufficient M1 rifles to arm all troops. It also remained in service as a sniper rifle during World War 2, the Korean War, and even in the early stages of the Vietnam War. This rifle is in superb condition. Its metalwork is undamaged with excellent original finish and its woodwork is complete and undamaged. It is crisply stamped on the breech housing 'U.S. Rock Island Arsenal Model 1903' and serial '375108' which dates its manufacture to 1909. The muzzle end of the barrel is date marked '2-44' (Feb 1944) and with the Frankford Arsenal ignited grenade mark together with 'RA' indicating that this weapon was re barrelled in 1944 for WW2 use. It has a steel butt plate with trap, bayonet lug, shrouded block & blade fore sight, sling swivels & adjustable ladder rear sight. The price for this iconic U.S. WW1 and WW2 rifle includes deactivation certificate and UK delivery. Sn 11814
