1866 British Private Purchase Enfield Tower 2 Band .577 Calibre Snider Conversion Short Rifle Marked ‘33’ To The 33rd Regiment Of Foot Duke of Wellington's Regiment (West Riding) By Rodda Birmingham. A 564 - A 564

The Duke of Wellington's Regiment (West Riding) / 23rd Regiment of Foot was an Inantry Regiment of the British Army, forming part of the King's Division. Battalions from the Regiment had served in most land conflicts involving British forces since its formation, from the Wars of the Austrian and Spanish successions, through the American war of Independence and various campaigns in India and Africa, the Napoleonic Wars, Crimea the Second Boer War and many of the greatest battles of World War I. When the breech loading Snider mechanism was introduced in 1866, many Enfield percussion long arms were converted to the new system. Enfield 2-band short rifles were issued to British Army Sergeants and many were privately purchased. This is an excellent example of the Enfield short rifle Snider conversion. The side plate is stamped With Queens Crown (Victoria) and by the manufacturer 'Tower 1866'. It has excellent all original wood work, Brass butt plate, fore end block and trigger guard. The butt plate tang is engraved ‘33’ to the 33rd Regiment of Foot. It also has its original bayonet bar, ramrod, ladder rear sight, block and blade fore sight, military heavy hammer and sling swivels. The barrel has a clean bore, crisp rifling and is stamped with Victorian proof marks. It is also stamped 'Rodda Birmingham'. Total length is 49" with a 33" barrel. The firing action works perfectly. This is an antique obsolete calibre rifle and no licence is required to possess it in the UK if retained as a part of a collection or display. The price includes UK delivery. A 564
