~ Ship of The Line Circa c1780 French Naval Cannon Barrel ~
This is a 12 pounder semi-carronade cannon with the iron barrel constructed with four moulded turns/stages.
It is named across the rear ring, Ruelle, for their cannon foundry.
This is of the type used on the upper decks of 1st rate ships of the line.
The touch hole has been spiked.
~ Dimensions ~
The barrel has a length 96 inches (2.438 m).
The cannon, across the trunnions, has a total width of 19 inches (1.39 m).
The muzzle diameter is 4 inches.
The cannon weighs approximately 1.4 metric tons.
~ Condition ~
The cannon is in decent condition. The left trunnion is a modern replacement. It is not a sea recovered piece.
It was acquired from a midlands militaria museum.
