~ Silver Mounted British Naval Officers Hanger Sword With Scabbard 1781 ~
A wonderful silver mounted British naval piece dating to 1781.
The sword has a silver D-Shaped guard, this is stamped with the London silver date mark for 1781, a makers mark of ‘WK’ and with another mark that is obscured.
The hilt is made of wood bound with alternating silver threads.
It has a silver flattened pommel with finial.
The blade is curved and has a wide fuller running the length of the blade with a second thinner fuller running three quarters along the back.
The hanger comes with the original black leather scabbard which is missing its chape and locket.
~ Dimensions ~
The overall length of the sword is 30 inches (76cm) with a blade length of 25 inches (64cm). It weighs 615g including the scabbard.
~ Condition ~
The blade has blackened with age and has numerous nicks. The rain guard/chappe has some damage. The scabbard is missing the chape, locket and ferrel and is quite worn.
