~ A Snider-Enfield Mk. II Cal .577 Service Rifle and Bayonet ~
The rifle is a conversion of the 1853 pattern percussion rifled musket.
It was well look after by the previous owner and heavily polished.
All its metal components bear Enfield proof marks.
The top of the breech is stamped with the Roman numeral ‘II’ and a pair of stars, indicating that the rifle is a mark 2 model.
The left side of the barrel is stamped with a great number of proof marks. Please refer to the pictures.
The lock plate is stamped with the war department mark, ‘Enfield 1862’ and Crown above VR.
The wooden stock is stamped with the Enfield arsenal circular stamp.
The trigger guard and the stock butt are made of brass.
The rifle comes with an original Enfield proof marked spike bayonet.
The bayonet has been cleaned and polished along the years.
~ Dimensions ~
The barrel length is 35.5 inches (90 cm) and the overall length of the rifle is 54 inches (137 cm).
The bayonet length is 23 inches (58.5 cm).
The set weighs 4.5 kg.
~ Condition ~
The rifle is in excellent condition for its age.
The barrel preserves part of its original blue.
The rifling is intact and the inner barrel is rust free.
All the stamps are visible.
The wooden frame is excellent, free of damage.
The rifle half cocks, cocks and fires with ease.
The breech works correctly.
The bayonet is excellent as well with minor surface rust, but nothing serious. Please refer to the pictures.
