~ Starr Arms Model 1858 Double Action .44 Cal. Percussion Army Six Shot Revolver And Holster ~
Just over 21,000 of these were produced between 1858 and 1863 for use by Union forces in the early years of the American Civil War. This one has a serial number of 5922, just forward of the trigger guard, makes this an early example.
The frame of the gun is stamped on one side ‘STARR'S ARMS Co. NEW YORK’ and on the other ‘STARR’S PATTENT JAN.15.1858’
The gun has a walnut grip and blued frame.
The serial number ‘5922 is stamped to the cylinder and under the hammer's frame.
The revolver comes with its dark brown leather holster.
~ Dimensions ~
The revolver measures 12 inches (30.5cm) long with the barrel measuring 6 inches (15cm).
It weighs 1.5 Kg.
~ Condition ~
It cocks on the main trigger and releases on the smaller one, indexing fine.
The nipples all look to be in good order.
The metal work has lost much of its bluing and developed some age pitting.
The underslung ramrod deploys smoothly.
The butt is quite chipped.
