~ Tower 1859 Dated Enfield Percussion Carbine 1853 Pattern ~
The carbine’s lock plate is stamped ‘VR’ beneath the crown and ‘1859 Tower’ and a pair of proof marks, one with a crown above broad arrow and another one with crown above 21.
The left side of the barrel bears three proof marks.
The two bands are proof marked as well.
The carbine is fitted with an adjustable rear sight and a front sight.
The wooden butt of the stock bears the War Department stamp a broad arrow above ‘WD’ and ‘I’.
The original rod specially shaped at the top to help loading the ‘Minie’ bullet is present.
The carbine half cocks, cocks and fires with a strong spring.
~ Dimensions ~
The barrel length is 28.5 inches (72.5 cm) and the overall length of the carbine is 44 inches (112 cm).
It weighs 3.5 Kg.
~ Condition ~
The carbine is in overall good used condition.
The metalwork is rust free with minor light age pitting on the barrel.
The hammer and lock plate are excellent.
The stock is cracked behind the trigger guard, as seen in the images. There is also a scarfed repair by the butt plate.
