The brass shell guard embossed with a large Eagle, probably made around 1810-1830. The grip most likely made of bone not ivory. The brass pommel in the shape of a crested helmet. The blade etched on one side with an American Eagle with out-stretched wings, with a banner above showing the US stars. The other side etched with large initials "USA" between two panels of floral decoration. In very good condition, the blade with no rusting. No scabbard, Makers name not visible but may be under the shell guard?. Overall length approx 37 inches. This is a very good looking and unusual American officer's sword. If anyone can tell me exactly what pattern sword it is I would very much like to hear from you. Our ref 7718.
