A knife from my own collection.
The knife has almost certainly has been in service in the jungles of Burma in WW2 where the stacked leather washers handle were affected by the constant jungle wetness and humidity. Someone has made a superb job of replacing the ribbed alloy handle, alloy handles are often used on trench knives but this has probably been manufactured from a downed aircraft. THE KNIFE HAS HAD A AN ORIGINAL WW2 VERY INTERESTING AND EXCELLENT QUALITY FIELD CONVERSION.THE NEW CHUNKY RIBBED ALLOY HILT HAS A FULL TANG PEANED OFF AT THE POMMELL AND ALSO HELD IN PLACE WITH A LARGE METAL PIN.
A new "DOUBLE GUARD" has also been added probably to make the knife less likely to slip.
This is one of the first USM8 knives produced as it has the blade rather than the guard Utica Manufacturer stamping and the blade stamped USM3 UC 1943.
