vetterli 1884 10.4mm Swiss M.1878 Rifles
The Vetterli rifles were a series of Swiss army service rifles in use from 1869 to circa 1890, when they were replaced with Schmidt-Rubin rifles. Modified Vetterli rifles were also used by the Italian Army. The Swiss Vetterli rifles combined the American M1866 Winchester rifle's tubular magazine and a bolt system derived from the German Dreyse. Due to the Swiss Federal Council's early 1866 decision to equip the army with a breechloading repeating rifle, the Vetterli rifles were, at the time of their introduction, the most advanced military rifles in Europe. This is an excellent Vetterli bolt action rifle in 10.35mm obsolete centre fire calibre rifle. It has superb all original wood furniture. The stock is nicely stamped with Swiss Crest and Crown with 1884 date (illustrated). It has excellent metalwork with nice patina throughout. The breech is stamped 'VU 7993' & 'Torre Annunziata 1884'. It has an adjustable rear sight, blade foresight, sling swivels, steel butt plate, correct magazine and original cleaning rod. The bore is clean with crisp rifling. The loading & firing action works perfectly. Price includes UK delivery. NB As an obsolete calibre antique rifle no licence is required to own this item in the UK if retained as part of a collection or display. Sn 8944:1.
