Sn 10923:7 - 10923:7The Vetterli rifles were a series of Swiss army service rifles in use from 1869 to circa 1890, when they were replaced with Schmidt-Rubin rifles. Modified Vetterli rifles were also used by the Italian Army. Vetterli rifles were, at the time of their introduction, the most advanced military rifles in Europe. Large numbers of the M1870/87 rifles in 6.5mm calibre with box magazine were used by the Italian Infantry during WW1. This is an excellent Italian M1870/87 Vetterli bolt action rifle in 6.5mm Calibre. It has superb all original wood furniture. The stock and metalwork are stamped with inspection marks. The breech is stamped 'Brescia' and dated 1878. The stock is impressed with letters and numbers together with 'what appears to be 'Bernadelli Vincenzo'. It has an adjustable rear sight, block & blade fore sight, rear sling swivel and forward sling swivel lug, steel butt plate and correct box magazine. It is without cleaning rod.
