British 1894 Dated, 1888 Pattern MK I Type 2 Sword Bayonet With Cancelled Regimental marks To The 1st & 4th Gloucester Regiment & Leather Scabbard. Sn 10880:72 - 10880:72

The Enfield Lee Metford, 1888 Mark 1, Type 2 Bayonet was manufactured for the British .303 calibre Enfield, Lee Metford Rifle which were issued to British and allied forces during the Boer War and WW1. This is the 2nd Type, changed from 3 rivets holding the grips to 2 centrally placed rivets and with the oil hole behind the top rivet. The Bayonet has a double edged and unfullered blade with a medial ridge running from the ricasso to the blade tip. The blade is in very good condition. The ricasso of the blade is marked, "8 94" below "V.R." and a Crown and "Wilkinson London", identifying the bayonet as being manufactured in August 1894. The reverse of the ricasso is stamped with inspection marks and "WD" and the War Department 'Broad Arrow' and "17". The pommel is stamped with two cancelled regimental marks:- "G.R. 163 4 G.R. 163" the 1st and 4th Gloucester Regiment. This bayonet comes complete with a black leather scabbard with "981" stamped on the throat. It has a tear drop frog stud.
