C 1830 English William Davis London (Later Webley & Scott) .450” Bore, Brass Frame Percussion Pistol With Octagonal Barrel & Captive Steel Ram Rod. Sn 13187 - 13187

William Davis was an English Gunsmith with premises at Lambeth Street and Whitechapel Road between 1790 & 1850. C1838 Davis’ Daughter married the Birmingham based Gunsmith Philip Webley and the Davis business amalgamated with Webley operating from 84 Weaman Street, Birmingham. The Company was later joined by Webley’s Brothers, W & C Scott & Son and Richard Ellis & Son to become the famous Webley & Scott Revolver & Arms Co Ltd in 1897 (see pages 153 & 211 of British Gunmakers Volume 1 by Brown). This is an excellent percussion pistol by Davis London . It is 9” overall with a 4 ¼” octagonal steel barrel. The top of the barrel is marked ‘Davis London’. The barrel also has proof marks. The underside of the barrel has its original captive steel ram rod. The brass frame and butt cap are engraved with foliate panels. It has a steel Dolphin hammer and steel trigger guard with foliate decoration. Its attractive walnut grip has fine chequering and is inlaid with a void silver escutcheon. The pistol cocks and dry fires as it should with a strong spring action. Price includes UK delivery. NB As an antique percussion weapon no licence is required to own this item in the UK if retained as part of a private collection or display. Sn 13187
