RARE, Original 1871 American Frontier / Wild West Era Winchester 'Yellow Boy' Model 1866 .44 Henry Rim Fire Cartridge Lever Action Rifle & RARE Original Correct Model 1866 Socket Bayonet . Sn 13125 - 13125

The 1866 Yellowboy lever-action rifle was a marked improvement over the Henry rifle. The Yellowboy had a convenient new type of loading gate, devised by Winchester plant superintendent Nelson King. The gate passed cartridges through the side of the receiver. This improvement made the lever action more functional and allowed for the installation of a wooden fore-end integrating a round sealed magazine which was covered by the fore stock. The rifles chambered in the rimfire .44 Henry were nicknamed the "Yellow Boy" because of its "brass" receiver (actually a bronze alloy called gunmetal). This is an excellent original example of the yellow boy rifle in .44 RF calibre. It has a 26” blued barrel and measures 46 ½” overall. The barrel's bore has just light staining consistent with age and well defined rifling. It’s all original wood work has just the bumps and bruises to be expected with age and use. It has the correct ‘brass’ receiver, brass butt plate with sliding trap, tube magazine and ‘King's Patent’ side gate. The top of the barrel has the very faint original manufacturer detail "WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS NEW HAVEN CT KING'S-IMPROVED-PATENT-MARCH 29. 1866. OCTOBER. 16. 1860". It is fitted with flip up rear sight, block and blade fore sight and has sling swivels. Its lever action and firing mechanisms works perfectly. The serial number is 51472 which dates it to 1871. The rifle is accompanied by its original rare to find Model 1866 socket bayonet (see Jantzen page 202 No.1 & Kiesling Vol IV No. 882). The bayonet measures 17 ¾” overall length and has a straight 15 1/8” blade. It has the correct swivel locking catch at the socket. The bayonet has staining consistent with age but no rust. The price for this rare obsolete calibre iconic American Frontier / Wild West era rifle with bayonet includes UK delivery. NB As an obsolete calibre rifle no licence is required to own this item in the UK if retained as part of a collection or display. Sn 13125
