Description

~ WW1 Austrian Stahlhelm Helmet Reused By Nazi Germany in WW2 ~

The helmet has several layers of different coloured paint.

The top coat is the typical dark-field grey finish which was applied by hand using a brush, at a German supply depot.

This is a transitional helmet as it displays the WW2 Nazi Adler decal and 1940 type liner.

This helmet was re-furbished for use in the Second World War by Germany.

The helmet was part of the private collection of a war veteran in Canada.

The helmet comes with some research documents of the previous owner.

Its chinstrap is missing.

A white painted stamp is partially visible on the inner back side of the helmet.

Also inside on the right side there is another mark ‘GG’.

The lining is made of brown leather and as previously said is of a WW2 pattern.

As seen in the pictures part of its decal is worn.

~ Dimensions ~

The circumference of the lining is 23 inches (59 cm), the size of it being 7 3/8 - Large.

The width of the helmet is 12.25 inches (31 cm), its depth is 9.6 inches(24.5 cm) and its height is 6.9 inches (17.5 cm).

It weighs 1.5 kg.

~ Condition ~

The helmet is in very good condition for its age.

The paint is chipped and as previously said the decal is partially worn.

The chinstrap is missing.

~ Postage ~

UK postage is £20, international at cost and it can be viewed in our shop.

~ Austrian Reissued Helmets ~

During 1940 and 1941, many helmets used by the German Army (Heer) were refurbished for field combat use.

Some of the efforts at collecting and repainting helmets took place prior to the invasion of both France (1940) and Russia (1941).

Surplus helmets, including Austrian pattern World War I helmets, were often collected and repainted by military personnel stationed at supply depots.
