~ WW1 German Made 1917 Dated Turkish Mauser Bayonet And Scabbard ~
This is a German export bayonet for the Turkish Mauser Model 98 rifle.
In the First World War the Turkish army was equipped with German made gear using the Turkish specifications.
The Turkish variant of the Mauser Gewer 98 rifle was longer than the German counterpart and due to that the bayonet had to be shorter than the one issued to the German soldiers.
The grip and guard of the bayonet were identical with the German ones but the blade was shorter.
The blade is stamped with the manufacturer’s name ‘Waffenfabrik, Mauser AG Oberndorf a N’.
The edge is stamped with the German Imperial crown above ‘W’, ‘17’ and the War Department proof mark.
The guard is serial numbered ‘7824’.
The scabbard is unmarked.
~ Dimensions ~
The blade length is 10 inches (25 cm) and the overall length of the bayonet is 15.15 inches (38.5 cm).
The bayonet and scabbard length is 16.33 inches (41.5 cm).
It weighs 665 grams.
~ Condition ~
The blade has one small nick and has darkened due to its age.
The grips aged but their general condition is good.
The safety catch button works fine.
The scabbard suffered some repairs as seen in the pictures.
~ Postage ~
Postage costs £18 or the bayonet can be collected from our shop in Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.
