Sniper plate, also called a "Trench Shield" or "Trench "Plate". were used by snipers in WWI to provide a thick covered firing port to pop shots at soldiers who would pop their heads up over the trench wall. The window has a trap door so that the port could be closed to prevent light from giving away the sniper?s position.
