An interesting rare and unusual WW2 British Officers private purchase Staghorn Grip Fairbairn Sykes almost certainly made by Swaine & Aldney Ltd. Military Outfitters of Piccadilly, London W1.
Staghorn was prized for its gripping ability particularly in the constant wetness of the jungle but this meant every knife had to be hand made at some expense. This classic Swaine & Aldney Staghorn Grip Fairbairn Sykes is shown on page 73 of Ron Flook`s really excellent book " British and Commonwealth Military Knives".
Has the classic thicker guard of the WW2 Fairbairn Sykes Knives.
Tapering Blade length about 17.8 cm and hilt length about 13.5 cm.
Iron ferrule with steel pommell with securing nut to full length tang
Rust staining to the iron ferrule and slight rust staining to the guard and very slight rust staining to the grip. otherwise very nice original condition and a very interesting and rare Swaine & Aldney.
