WW2 EXTREMELY RARE POLISH OFFICERS ISSUE CAVALRY SABRE Swords
### ON HOLD ###WW2 EXTREMELY RARE POLISH OFFICERS ISSUE CAVALRY SABRE .OVERALL GOOD / VERY GOOD CONDITION. A NICE 100% ORIGINAL EXAMPLE OF THE POLISH MODEL 1921 CAVALRY SWORD USED TO CHARGE GERMAN LIGHT TANKS IN WW2. ALTHOUGH AIMED AT THE INFANTRY BETWEEN THE TANKS MANY OF THE GERMAN TANK CREW PANICKED AT THE SITE OF THIS MAGNIFICENT CHARGE AND ABANDONED THEIR LIGHT TANKS A very unusual feature of the blade of this sword is that one side of the blade has a long fuller but the other side is completely flat. We understand that this was to enable the blade swing to be more effective when swung from the saddle towards infantry on the ground. Has the usual officers fishskin grips rather than the troopers wooden handle.
The plated blade still has a nice sharp edge which makes us think that this sword was intended for use as both a parade and battle sword, the strong flash of the plated blade creating a psychological effect of its own when charging enemy forces. Blade length about 81 cm. The wavy lines on the of the blade photo are just reflections.
With original metal sheath with original suspension rings. Some age staining and finer pitting areas to one side of the scabbard, the other side of the scabbard having very few of those blemishes. The scabbard was probably overall plated at one time. The blade has had some slight wear to plating from the point for about 10cm.Some very small marks on the blade due to plating loss, otherwise the blade is overall very good condition. Some wear to fishskin grips due to age and use. Sword still has a nice tight snug fit in the scabbard.
As "World Swords" by Harvey J.S. Withers says on page 134."Examples of pre-communist Polish swords are extremely rare, and especially those issued between the years 1918-1930.Few appear on the market." This is probably because the Germans allegedly sent any they could find back to Germany to melt down as the steel was apparently of such good quality, although this may have been for propoganda purposes as surviving examples could be used as a focus of resistance especially given the famous Polish Cavalry charge at the beginning of WW2. An extremely rare sword in overall good / very good condition.
