~ WW2 German 3rd Reich Bronze Mother's Cross ~
The cross is enameled is blue with a slim white border.
In the centre of the radiant starburst rays is a metal roundel decorated with the words ?DER DEUTSCHEN MUTTER? (In English: TO THE GERMAN MOTHER) around an enameled black straight centred ?swastika? symbol, infilled white enamel.
The reverse of the medal features the '16 Dezember 1938' commemorative date of the medals inception as well as a facsimile signature of Adolf Hitler.
~ The Mother's Cross ~
The Cross of Honour of the German Mother was introduced by decree in Berlin on 16 December 1938 by Adolf Hitler.
The crosses were awarded annually on the second Sunday in May (Mothering Sunday or Mother's Day), but also extended to include other national annual occasions of celebration.
The Mother?s Cross was composed of three classes of order:
- 1st Class Order, Gold Cross: eligible mothers with eight or more children
- 2nd Class Order, Silver Cross: eligible mothers with six to seven children
- 3rd Class Order, Bronze Cross: eligible mothers with four to five children
~ Dimensions ~
The total length is approx. 1.8 inches (4.75cm).
The width of the cross is 1.4 inches (3.5cm).
~ Condition ~
The condition of the cross is very good for its age with no chipping to the enamel. The reverse is slightly scratched and the ribbon is not present.
