WW2 RARE CHINDIT JUNGLE BOWIE KNIFE AND SHEATH. Knives
### NEW LISTING ### 26/2/16
WW2 RARE CHINDIT JUNGLE BOWIE KNIFE AND SHEATH.
Knife and sheath in nice condition.
An interesting variation of a WW2 Chindit Jungle Knife in its original WW2 Chindit Jungle Issue Sheath. These are illustrated on page 204 to 206 in Ron Flook's Superb Reference Book... "British And Commonwealth Military Knives" .
This certainly the original blade and sheath but maybe because the hilt was damaged it has been replaced with a solid wooden hilt strongly bolted to the tang with three bolts... although the hilt design and shape is the same as the Chindit Bowie's illustrated in Ron Flooks Book. Also part of an Royal Army Ordnance Corps Button has been flattened out and indented into the hilt.
Would say the guard which is non magnetic has been made from Aircraft Alloy which is usually strong but relatively easy to work...something often used on WW2 Field Made Knives.
Thick strong Bowie Blade about 18 cm long with a hilt length of about 12.5 cm and an overall length of about 30.5 cm.
Would say that the jungle green webbing covering the alloy guard has been added at some period after the knife was made and has some fraying to the web.The original blade has some marks and light rust staining. The tang and bolts has lost most of the original black parkerised finish. Otherwise both sheath and knife are in nice condition.
