WW2 TAYLORS OF SHEFFIELD FAIRBAIRN SYKES PATT KNIFE & WW2 FAIRBAIRN SYKES SHEAT Knives
WW2 TAYLORS OF SHEFFIELD FAIRBAIRN SYKES PATT KNIFE & WW2 FAIRBAIRN SYKES SHEATH
A WW2 Fairbairn Sykes Pattern Knife made by Taylors of Sheffield. This knife bears a remarkable number of similarities to the classic WW2 fairbairn Sykes design. The double edge stiletto blade at 6 1/2 inches long, the triangular blade "pean" at the guard, the locking nut at the hilt, the tip broken and reshaped to a point...this description could have been directly applied to a WW2 Fairbairn Sykes.( Quite a number of WW2 Fairbairn Sykes are offered for sale on the collectors market with the tip broken and reshaped with a wider more rounded point...as on this Sheffield knife...., which according to former commandos was to modify the very fine stiletto point tip which was easily broken on the original Fairbairn Sykes.
It has been said that these double edged stiletto knives were manufactured by Sheffield Knife Manufacturers as a cheaper private purchase version of the Fairbairn Sykes
Not suprisingly this knife is a tight and very nice fit in the WW2 pattern of Fairbairn Sykes Sheath. The sheath itself is quality hide leather manufacture as on the current British Army Issue F/S sheath , although the leather and elastic are an olive green rather than brown.Would say that this is a modern replacement sheath.
The manufacturers name and trade mark stamp on the blade have been in extensively in use since 1838.
