ON HOLD ### NEW LISTING 13/3/15 #### WW2 THIRD PATTERN FAIRBAIRN SYKES COMMANDO DAGGER WITH WOODEN HILT AND SHEATH AND 1944 PATTERN FROG DATED 1945.
Overall nice condition.
Although this has no markings the dagger itself is typically WW2 and has the typical thick guard as opposed to the post WW2 thinner guard.
Also which again this a typical feature the tip has been slightly shortened and reground to thicken and strengthen the point.
This Sheath has a nicely made from a sort of jungle hardwood held by small brass nails. The frog is a 1944 webbing frog which appears to have more than one 1945 date on the back.1944 pattern webbing was originally designed for use in the jungles of Burma in WW2, The hilt is also the typical wooden handled Sykes Fairbairn to stop grip slipping by the consistently sweating hands.
However would that apart from the guard and the blade the conversion and the other parts of the dagger have been made at done at some period post WW2.
However, it would make an excellent display item for the WW2 Burma campaign, or suit a Chindit Wallah Battle Re enactor.
Blade length about 17.5 cm, overall length about 30 cm.
