This is a very nice example of the rare volunteer version of the ‘1875’ pattern bayonet. These bayonets were made by the ‘Solingen Trade’ and purchased by various colonial governments. (See Skennerton item B190, pages 148-149) This example has the larger MRD of 20.2mm with the blade measuring 18”. The blade is clean with slight pitting and is marked with a crown over A.S. and the knights head trademark of ‘Weyersberg Kirschbaum’. The crossguard carries the number 743. The grips are black chequered leather, undamaged and showing signs of age related service wear. The scabbard is steel mounted black leather with the frog stud carrying and undecipherable number. The leather is in good condition for its age, with no holes or tears. A very rare and sought after piece. The price includes U.K. delivery. 18826.
