    ~ 1776 Flintlock Musket By Harrison ~

This is a fine privately purchase 18th century musket.

The lockplate is stamped with the gunsmiths name ‘Harrison’ and beneath the hammer with the manufacturing year 1776. A part of the trade mark is visible as well.

The musket comes with its leather sling which is missing the rear buckle and a steel ramrod.

The barrel bears on the left side a modern stamp ‘JPR/EXPR/445’, most probably from the last time when it was reproofed.

The barrel is fitted with both a frontal and rear gun sight, uncommon for most of the muskets of the era.

All the fittings, except the hammer, trigger and the lockplate, are made of brass.

Judging by the quality of the stock, its carving and the additional sight, we can presume it was used as a hunting piece.

It half cocks, cocks and release with a strong spring.

    ~ Dimensions ~

The barrel length is 37 inches (94 cm) and the overall length of the musket is 53 inches (134.5 cm).

    It weighs 4 kg.

    ~ Condition ~

The musket is in a very good used condition.

It is clearly visible that the musket was properly maintained by the former owners.

The barrel has three minor dings at the end of the muzzle.

On the left side of the barrel, on the stock, is a professional chamfered repair.

The same work was also done towards the muzzle.

There are minor chips and scratches, as expected for the age, but due to fact that the woodwork was varnished when the repairs were done, the musket overall look is excellent.

The leather sling is in very good condition too, with the expected signs of aging.

    ~ Postage ~

UK postage is £15 or it can be collected from our shop in Portsmouth Historic Dockyard....Read full description
