Here we have a wonderful piece of early French militaria, a very early standardised pattern French military firearm.
This pistol whilst looking rather basic is one of the earlier mass produced military items in Europe.
This firearm whilst looking basic and rugged was one of the standards of its day and was used from the late 18th century though till the mid 19th in some theatres of war.
This firearm was manufactured and the St Etienne Arms Factory and bears a very early proof mark of a crowned L. The barrel is also marked with the number 79, most likely a batch number and a secondary proof mark on the barrel.
The pistol consists of a rather exposed barrel in a dark hardwood furniture, a brass lock plate and iron fittings.
The pistol comes with a locking box painted black with a fabric lined inner.
~ Dimensions ~
The barrel is 7.5 inches (19 cm) long.
The pistol is 14 inches (34.5cm) long.
The set weighs 2.5
~ Condition ~
The pistol is in excellent condition for its age and manufacture. There is some age showing on the metal but the wood has a nice aged finish and the action works well with strong springs.
The box has some cosmetic damage to be expected with an item of this age and some of the fabric has come loose.
~ Postage ~
UK postage is £25, international at cost and it can be viewed in our shop.
