1803 William Henshaw,London, Honourable East India Company (HEIC) .750 Musket Calibre India Pattern Brown Bess Flintlock Musket. Sn 18509 - 18509
This is an original HEIC Brown Bess flintlock musket. It is 54 ¾” overall length with a 39” long round steel barrel with block foresight. Its smooth bore has staining and residue consistent with age and use. It has its original lock plate crisply engraved with the HEIC mark and dated ‘1803’ together with manufacturer's name ‘Henshaw’ (most likely William Henshaw Gunmaker recorded at 279 Strand, 181 Strand and 44 Bond Street London between 1780 & 1808 see page 168 of Brown's book British Gunmakers Vol 1). There is also a ‘Crown 2’ inspection mark. The Military hammer is fitted with a flint. It has all original walnut full stock with iron ramrod, sling swivels and regulation brass furniture. The brass trigger guard is double stamped ‘15’ most likely a weapon number. The wood has several contemporary hand scratched indistinct markings which can be seen in the images. The barrel is stamped with black powder proofs. The metal work in the white is clean and the weapon cocks and dry fires crisply. The price for this historic piece includes UK delivery. N.B As an antique musket no licence is required to own this item in the UK if retained as part of a collection or display. Sn 18509
