1810 British Army In India EIC (East India Company) Marked Baker Pattern .650 Calibre Flintlock Smoothbore Musket For Native Troops. Sn 18513 - 18513

The Baker rifle (officially known as the Pattern 1800 Infantry Rifle) was a flintlock rifle used by the Rifle Regiments of the British Army during the Napoleonic Wars. It was the first standard-issue, British-made rifle accepted by the British armed forces. The Baker Rifle was first produced in 1800 by Ezekiel Baker, a master gunsmith from Whitechapel. The British Army was still issuing the Infantry Rifle in the 1830s and they were in service until C1838. The British army in India issued Native troops with smoothbore Baker pattern rifles. This is an excellent, original Baker pattern smoothbore musket of the East India Company made in 1810 of the pattern issued to Indian native troops. It has a 32” barrel and measures 48 ½” overall. The smoothbore has staining & residue consistent with age. It has a brass butt plate, trigger guard with extended tang, fore end block, block fore sight, ‘v’ notch block fixed rear sight and correct Baker type bayonet bar. It also has a heavy swan neck military hammer fitted with flint. The lock plate is marked with the EIC rampant Lion mark and has a small inspection mark. The tail of the lock plate is dated ‘1810’. It's all original wood stock has just the bumps and bruises to be expected with age and service use and the metal work in the white is clean & all original. The musket is complete with its original steel ram rod and is fitted with sling swivels. The cocking and firing mechanisms of the weapon work crisply. The price includes UK delivery. NB As an antique flintlock weapon no licence is required to own this item in the UK if retained as part of a collection or display. Sn 18513
