~ 1831 Pattern Mameluke Staff Officers Sword By Manton ~
Here we have a mid to late Victorian 1831 Mameluke Sword for a Staff Officer of field rank (above that of major) sold by the retailer Manton of Calcutta.
The sword has a nicely etched steel blade with the queens crown and a vegetable ivory grip (which dates this to post 1860 and also allows for worldwide sales), the fittings are all polished brass and the sword comes with a brass scabbard indicating field rank or above.
The swords proof slug has a ‘T’ in the centre indicating the blade was made by Thurkle.
The sword is inspired by the Mameluke swords encountered in Egypt during the Napoleonic wars or carried by the Muslim soldiers of India.

The sword is 38 inches (97 cm) long.
The blade is 33 inches (84 cm) long.
The sword weighs 1.260 Kg.
~ Condition ~
The sword is in good condition for its age with some small cracks to the vegetable ivory and some blemishes to the brass of the guard but is in otherwise brilliant condition.
