Description

~ 1851 Colt Navy Pattern Short Barrel Six Shot Revolver, English Stamps ~

This is a custom made piece identified by the serial number as made around 1861-62.

The previous owner said that this is a Hartford made piece and some elements may indicate this, such as the Victorian proof marks on all its major components and the steel trigger guard.

The barrel though, even if stamped with the Victorian marks on the left side, bears on the top what it seems to be the American address of the Colt Company. Unfortunately most of the stamp is worn off.

The serial number stamps of ‘101805’ are identical and consistent with the period stamps and no alterations are visible, meaning that the piece has been assembled in England as a custom order, featuring a .36 cal Navy pocket barrel on a regular Navy body.

The high end serial number also indicates that the piece is a pocket conversion.

The original trigger and some of the internals have been changed. The original trigger comes as a spear part though.

~ Dimensions ~

The revolver is a .36 calibre.

The barrel is 5.90 inches (15 cm long) and the overall length of the piece is 11 ½ inches (29.3 cm).

It weighs 990 grams.

~ Condition ~

The revolver is in fair used condition for its age.

It has been lacquered but could easily be removed with solvent. As said, there are some replacement parts, most notably the trigger but the original trigger Is included.

The action partially works but sometimes doesn't index correctly and will not half-cock.

The spring is very strong.

There is some amount pitting on the metal work .

The grips are original.

The bore remains in good condition with its rifling well preserved.

~ Postage ~

UK postage is £18, international at cost and it can be viewed in our shop.
