~ 1916 Dated 1907 Pattern SMLE Hooked Quillon Bayonet, Post War Assembled Parts ~
Here we have a very nice 1907 pattern bayonet with a blade dating to 1916, it appears this bayonet has been assembled using WW1 manufacture parts after the war since no British made curved quillon bayonets were manufactured after 1913.
The 1907 pattern has its signature curved quillon, reminiscent of the French bayonet as far back as 1866.
The pattern is still long and considered a sword bayonet, it has some fading to the markings but we can still clearly see the broad arrow acceptance mark, the Crown, the pattern no ‘1907’, the date of the blades manufacture ’10, 16’ and the maker which has worn and lost its first few letters but is clearly Sanderson.
The blade is in good condition with some minor spots of blackening.
The bayonet comes with its leather scabbard with steel fittings.
~ Dimensions ~
The blade is 17.25 inches (44 cm) long.
The bayonet is 22 inches (56 cm) long.
The bayonet weighs 730 g.
~ Condition ~
The bayonet is in good condition for its age with a very nice blade due to being protected by the scabbard.
The steel of the quillon and of the scabbards fittings have some pitting to them to be expected with age.
The quillon and pommel section has some surface rust.
The wood has a nice aged finish.
