Description

~ 19th Century Double Barrelled Percussion Pocket Pistol ~

Here we have a nice piece, a double barrelled over & under percussion pistol with separate triggers.

This is a very workmanlike pistol made for function over beauty with well worn grips and no engravings on the metalwork.

The grip is a polished hardwood that was originally worked but it appears to have lost its design through use.

The right side of the pistol has two small loops attached perhaps for hanging on a saddle or belt.

From the trigger orientation this is either a left handers purpose built pistol or a horseman’s pistol (traditionally carried in the left hand with the right hand for the sword or reins).

The barrels and metalwork are all quite overbuilt and solid.

Quite unique for this type of pistol is the forward sight, just a basic needle sight that appears to be made at time of manufacture.

The pistol also appears to be nicely marked, the proof marks are faded but appear to be British though possibly Belgian.

The thing that makes this interesting is the charge markings, the body of the pistol and the barrel have both been marked with ‘3 gr N.G.R.M/71’ and other faded marks.

The parts have also been serial numbered with the body and the barrels all being marked with a 60.

The pistol has a 68 bore.

Overall a very nice pistol that appears to have seen some use.

~ Dimensions ~

The pistol is 11 inches (28 cm) long.

The barrels are 5 inches (12.5) cm long.

The pistol weighs 530 g.

~ Condition ~

The pistol is in a good functioning condition.

The upper barrel/right trigger is a bit tight but will release the hammer.

There is some surface rust to the pistol.

~ Postage ~

UK postage is 20, international at cost and it can be viewed in our shop.
