Create my profile now!Soon after the outbreak of WW1 new bayonets were issued and became one of the standard bayonets of WW1. There were 3 variants all differing in pommel and blade style. They were referred to as the Seitengewehr Model 1914. Although not conclusive it is believed that these bayonets were intended for export to South American countries but at the outbreak of war they were diverted to the German Army (see page 115 and No.275 on page 26 of White & Watts The Bayonet book where a 1st type is illustrated) This is an original 1st Type Seitengewehr Model 1914 Bayonet. The back of its 12 ¼” blade with fullers is stamped with Imperial inspection mark. The ricasso is stamped by the maker ‘Samson Werke’. It measures 17 ½” overall length. Its slab wood scales secured by rivets are undamaged. The bayonet is complete with original steel scabbard. The scabbard has just a few light dents. The scabbard is fitted with an original brown leather frog with single belt loop. There are no manufacturer or date marks on the frog. The price includes UK delivery. BAYO 604
