Create my profile now!This is a rare WW2, 1944 dated tin lined wooden ammunition box to contain 100 rounds of 20mm (20x138B) ammunition for the Flak 38 anti-aircraft gun. The rounds were originally contained in disposable cardboard tubes, one of which is illustrated. The substantial lid to the wooden box has two metal hinges and two locking closure clasps. The ends of the box have two recessed metal folding carrying handles fitted. The box measuring 67 x 26 x 21 cm in size and retains much of its original green painted finish and its original waterproof tin liner which has traces of solder on it used to retain the tear off lid. The box has metal screwed on reinforced corners to all of the corners. The front of the box has the remains of two paper labels, one stuck on top of the other which would have been done when the box of ammunition was re issued. Both ends of the box are stencilled in large letters 2 cm. There are two paper labels inside the lid box. The first refers to 100 rounds of 2cm Sprenggranat-Patron (high explosive) ammunition and the other label refers to the fuse (A.Z.1502) and the tracer. This label is dated 24 Jan 1944. The lid is also stencilled Gepruft Abn, (checked) and handwritten in ink 75 Schuos gezahlt any 4.4.44.. (75 shot (rounds) paid (received?)).
