In 1937 the German Air Ministry announced the adoption of a new, 2nd pattern dagger for Luftwaffe Officers (see page 128 of Stephen’s book daggers Swords & Bayonets Of The Third Reich). This is a near mint original example. It has a 10" clean double edged blade with medial ridge (15 ¼” overall). The blade is marked by the manufacturer 'Original Eickhorn Solingen' with Squirrel trademark (illustrated). Its cross guard is formed from an Eagle with spread wings carrying a Swastika and it has a round pommel with Swastika surrounded by Oak leaf wreath. Its grooved grip is constructed of orange hue celluloid with twist wire bands which are tight. The dagger is complete with original stipple finished scabbard which features a panel of Oak leaves in the lower section close to the tip. The scabbard has 2 hanging ring mounts decorated with oak leaves and 2 original hanging rings.
