Description

~ 9th Century Viking Burial Set ~

The set comes from Denmark and comprises of a one hand sword with the star symbol on the pommel, a spear head, an axe head, a dagger, a sharpening/razor knife, a triangular padlock, two fibulae and a helmet.

They were excavated in Svebolle, Zealand, Denmark.

The sword is fitted with a copper pommel engraved on both sides with a star. It is a one hand sword with a plain multilayer cross guard.

The spear head still preserves traces of the original wooden handle inside.

Both the sharpening knife and the long knife have a similar design, their sharp edge being straight and the reverse being curved.

The helmet is made of riveted parts, as can be seen in the pictures.

~ Dimension ~

The blade of the sword is 27.5 inches (70 cm) long and its overall length is 33 inches (84 cm).

The helmet is 5.25 inches (13 cm) tall with a circumference of 27 ½ inches (70 cm).

The spearhead length is 11 ½ inches (29 cm) and its depth is 2 inches (5 cm).

The long knife is 17.75 inches (45 cm) long and 1 ½ (3.8 cm) deep.

The small knife is 5 ½ inches (14 cm) long and 1 inch (2.5 cm) deep.

The axe head is 6 inches (15 cm) long by 5 ½ inches (14 cm) tall by 1 ½ inches (3.8 cm) deep.

The lock is 4.45 inches (11 cm) wide by 1.55 inches (4 cm) deep by 5 ½ inches (14 cm) tall.

The two fibulae have similar sizes. The one with the hinged pin is 2 ½ inches (6.35 cm) by 1.65 inches (4.19 cm) and the other one is 3 inches (7.62cm) by 1.5 inches (3.8 cm).

The set weighs 4.5 kg.

~ Condition ~

The set is in museum condition.

All its components are rusty and lost some sections, but as is visible in the pictures they are very well preserved.
