Description

Largest selection of genuine antique weapons for sale in UK. See our website andrewbottomley.com. Ref 9382. A fine pair of English Queen Anne style flintlock pistols by Bennett of London. Although they appear to be silver mounted there were no British silver hallmarks applied at the time of manufacture. Under current British law because they were never hallmarked, they cannot be described as being made of silver. We are therefore describing them as silver metal mounted. ! Circa 1781-1790. John Bennett had a workshop at the Royal Exchange London 1781-1802. The frames are engraved with the gunmakers name "Bennett London" and the name although now faint, is still visible on both pistols. Five inch screw-off cannon barrels. Finely chequered walnut grips with decorative silver metal escutcheons fitted to the rear. The pistols are both fitted with very fine silver metal mounts including Grotesque silver metal butt caps, pierced and worked sideplates and iron trigger guards. A minor crack in the wood on one pistol and an old repair to the wood around the tang on the other pistol, otherwise in good condition and working order. Overall length 12 inches. Ref 9382. This is an obsolete antique pistol and is sold as a collectors item only. No Licence is required in the United Kingdom. If you wish to purchase this item please visit our website andrewbottomley.com where you can pay by credit/debit card or bank transfer at not extra charge. Established 1968.
