A very good 17th Century Scottish basket hilted Sword of the type known as a "Beak Nose" or "Ribbon Hilt". This type of sword was carried during the period circa 1630-1700. The guard is made of various wide bars and a typical "Beak Nose" at the bottom of the guard. The 31 inch blade is in very good condition and is unusual in that it is the only curved one that we have seen. It is engraved in the wide fullers with the a sun and a Turk's head to both sides. Overall length 36 inches. The grip of wood and would have been originally bound with wire. A good honest untouched piece with a nice overall dark patina. Ref 9559.
