Description

A rare and very early Flintlock brass barrelled Blunderbuss pistol by R Stringer dating from c. 1714. The lock plate engraved with the royal cipher of Queen Anne- a Crown over AR and the maker's name R Stringer & date 14 (for 1714). Ralph Stringer was apprenticed to Edward Caddy in 1688. He was free of the Gun maker's Company in 1695 and Gun maker to Ordnance from 1697 to the year of his death in 1715. Following his death the business was carried on by his widow, Elizabeth. British proof marks stamped on the the 8 inch brass barrel below the makers initials RS. Brass engraved butt cap and trigger guard. Brass side plate terminating in a mythical monster head. Brass tipped wooden ramrod. Root wood stock. Some minor restoration. Action in good working order. In good condition with some wear and dings. A very rare pistol. Ref 9532. This is an obsolete antique pistol and is sold as a collectors item only. No Licence is required in the United Kingdom.
